The Icom M73 is a nice handheld VHF radio that has some nice features.  It has 6 Watts of transmit power giving folks the longest communication range a handheld can give.  It has the best waterproof features and has been tested submersed under water at 4.9 feet for 30 minutes.  The audio output is good and has an internal speaker that delivers 700 mW output.  We like this VHF for marine use.  It has all the features we like to see in a marine VHF.

We found the battery life to be pretty good.  Folks have reported that with normal use over a 4 day period of time the battery seemed to have some extra juice.

It has a simple rotary knob layout with an pretty intuitive design.  It is light, has a pretty good display screen. If you don’t mind spending a little extra dollars we would recommend going with the PLUS version of the M73.  It has a noise canceling feature that works exactly the way we like to hear a noise canceling feature to work.  In our humble option it is well worth the extra bucks.  Regardless, we rate the M73 a buy.
